2nd Star Receives 21 WATCH Award Nominations

2nd Star was honored to receive 21 WATCH (Washington Area Theater Community Honors) Award nominations in 2017. Congratulations to all of our nominees and to our two award winners: Jane Wingard who won the Set Painting in a Musical category ("Guys and Dolls") and Joe Biddle who won for Outstanding Music Direction ("HMS Pinafore"). 2nd Star wins Ruby Griffith Award!

In 1969 the British Embassy Players established the Ruby Griffith Awards for outstanding achievement in theatrical productions in Washington, DC and surrounding areas. 

On July 10, 2016, 2nd Star Productions was awarded the 2015-2016 Ruby Griffith top Award for All-Around Production Excellence for our musical "Guys and Dolls".

It’s Award Season 2014!

The Bay Weekly’s Best of the Bay issue is out.  Our President/Artistic Director, Jane Wingard has been named 2014’s Best Local Artist.  Congratulations, Jane!

MD Theatre Guide 2013 Reader's Choice Awards are in!  2nd Star's "Little Shop of Horrors" gathered the following 5 honors:

Best Lighting Design of a Production (Garrett R. Hyde)
Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Musical, 1st Runner Up (Dean Davis as Orin Scrivello)
Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Musical, 2nd Runner Up (Hannah Thornhill as Audrey)
Best Musical Direction, 2nd Runner Up (Joe Biddle)


The Washington Area Theatrical Community Honors WATCH Awards were presented on March 9, 2014.

Ruby Griffith Awards 2012-2013

In 1969 the British Embassy Players established the Ruby Griffith Awards for outstanding achievement 
in theatrical productions in Washington, DC and surrounding areas.

2nd Star Productions wins "Best Theatre" category at MD Theatre Guide!

Each January, the MD Theatre Guide invites its website visitors to vote from a list of the top 
theatres and performances from the previous year.  Voting concluded January 18th, 2013.
The results are in and 2nd Star was chosen in four categories:

2nd Star's June 2002 production, 
"Guys and Dolls" 
received the 2nd Runner Up prize in Outstanding Achevement in a Musical  from the British Embassy Players.

In February 1996, just prior to our first "official" 2nd Star production, the technical staff collaborated on a one act play, 
"Home At Six" for the Maryland Community Theater Festival, 
for our old friends, Pasadena Theatre Company.

At the Festival awards ceremony, "Home At Six" received many awards, including:

  • "Best Production"
  • The "Cliff Smith Excellence in Directing Award" to Jane B. Wingard
  • Named "Outstanding Actor" were Ed Kuhl, Heather Tuckfield, and Susan Weber
  • The "Ed-Ro-Char Award for Technical Excellence" was presented to the technical crew; John Guyton, Joanne Wilson,  Lynne Wilson, and Marty Hayes

In May 1996, "Home At Six" advanced to the ESTA Festival in Pennnsylvania, where it won the Eastern States Theatre Association's "Judge's Discretionary Award for Set Design".
