2nd Star Productions, Ragtime, 2017

Our Mission

2nd Star Productions strives to produce high quality amateur theater for the community of Bowie, Maryland and the surrounding areas. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, educational organization, giving opportunities for study through presentations of plays and musicals. We work with and train actors, technicians, and other essential personnel in the theater arts, enhancing aesthetic and technical awareness and skills in their chosen area under the guidance of those in the company who are highly experienced in their craft.

Our Vision

We believe that everyone deserves equal access to a full and vibrant creative life. 2nd Star seeks to be a welcoming space for all: our patrons, our volunteers, and the community. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels. Our goal is to build a theater community rooted in respect and opportunities for all. We are a safe space for individuals of all races, national or ethnic origins, religions, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, sizes, and abilities.

 Our Values

  • As an educational organization, we strive to train actors, technicians, and other volunteers in theatrical arts.

  • We encourage our volunteers to dream, take chances, and think outside the box.

  • Every volunteer’s productive offerings are appreciated and encouraged

  • We treat every volunteer and patron equally and with respect, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, ability, or age.

  • We produce work we believe in, strive to run efficient rehearsals, and hold ourselves to a certain standard of quality in our finished products.

  • We actively engage beyond the stage in the City of Bowie and the surrounding areas, developing relationships with other local organizations and participating in local events.

  • We strive to create a friendly, inclusive, family-like atmosphere for all of our volunteers and patrons throughout our process.
